Larsen & Toubro wins large ONGC order for offshore project

The hydrocarbon business of Indian engineering conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an order from compatriot state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corporation for the MHN TCPP PGC BGC Project off India’s west coast.

The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of new process gas compressor modules at ONGC’s Mumbai High & Tapti offshore locations along with the upgrade of existing facilities to enhance production.

The Mumbai High Field, formerly called the Bombay High Field, is an offshore oilfield 176 km off the west coast of Mumbai, in the Gulf of Cambay region of India, in about 75 m of water.

This order reflects customer faith in L&T’s capabilities and L&T’s steadfast commitment to support ONGC in securing India’s energy needs. As for Tabti, ONGC took control of the field facilities in 2016 from BG and Reliance Industries. The facilities are now used as processing platforms for gas and condensate export from the Daman block in the Arabian Sea.

The company did not reveal any financial details except to describe it as significant. In Larsen & Toubro’s case, a significant contract is somewhere between ₹1000 crore and ₹2500 crore or $120m and $300m.
