Kyrgyzstan, World Bank, and Swiss Experts Discuss Kambarata HPP-1 Project

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Avazbek Atakhanov, recently met with consultants from AFRY Switzerland Ltd. and experts from the World Bank (WB) to discuss updates to the feasibility study for the Kambarata-1 hydropower plant, according to Azernews. The meeting, which took place in Bishkek, was reported by the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Representatives from the World Bank provided details on the upcoming revisions to the feasibility study for the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant (HPP), including the project timeline. Atakhanov emphasized that the successful execution of this major investment in Central Asia would significantly contribute to sustainable and harmonious regional development.

All participants expressed a commitment to active collaboration to achieve their shared goals for the hydropower plant construction project.

It’s worth noting that Kambarata-1, located on the Naryn River, is the largest hydroelectric project in Kyrgyzstan and is set to become one of Central Asia’s most significant hydropower initiatives. Upon completion, the HPP will have a capacity of 1,860 MW and is expected to produce 5.6 billion kWh of electricity annually. Preliminary estimates suggest that the dam will stand 256 meters tall, and the reservoir will hold over 5.4 billion cubic meters of water.
