Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister, Akylbek Japarov, met with leaders from China’s Zhicun Lithium Industry Group Company to discuss potential lithium exploration, mining, and processing projects in Kyrgyzstan. These discussions took place during Japarov’s official visit to Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China.
The meetings focused on opportunities related to lithium battery production and lithium carbonate processing, leveraging Kyrgyzstan’s natural resources for economic development. Japarov also met with the head of China Railway Intermodal Logistics Company to discuss plans for constructing the Bedel checkpoint on the Kyrgyzstan-China border, aiming to enhance trade and logistical efficiency between the two countries.
Discussions with leaders from China’s Kashgar Economic Development Zone centered on the “Two Countries – Twin Parks” project. This initiative aims to establish a machinery plant in Kyrgyzstan and venture into bamboo paper production, promoting economic diversification.
Highlighting the strategic significance of these projects, Japarov noted that the $130 million investment in the Naryn region is set to advance following the signing of project implementation documents at the China-Eurasia Expo. Construction is scheduled to commence in August 2024
