To address the rising demand for electricity, Kuwait is preparing to launch tenders for the supply, installation, and operation of gas turbines, aiming to boost the capacity of one of its key power plants by 900 megawatts (MW), according to the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry confirmed that the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) has approved its proposal to move forward with the expansion of the Subiya power station in southern Kuwait.
The project, which is set to be completed within 36 months, is part of a broader national effort to strengthen Kuwait’s electricity infrastructure amid growing consumption.
The Ministry also noted that tenders for both the Subiya plant and another facility in Nuwaiseeb, located in Al-Ahmadi Governorate, are expected to be issued in early 2025.
The expansion at Subiya is projected to cost around 257 million Kuwaiti dinars (approximately $848 million), while the Nuwaiseeb project is valued at nearly KWD950 million (around $3.135 billion).
