KT Tech Secures Licensing Agreement for Green Methanol Facility

Awarded License for NX AdWinMethanol® Zero Technology

MAIRE (MAIRE.MI) has announced that KT Tech, a subsidiary of NEXTCHEM, has secured a licensing agreement for its cutting-edge NX AdWinMethanol® Zero technology. This innovative technology will be used in the Pacifico Mexinol project, an ultra-low carbon methanol facility located near Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. Once operational, the facility will produce over 2.1 million tons of methanol annually.

Pacifico Mexinol: A Pioneering Ultra-Low Carbon Facility

Pacifico Mexinol, developed by Transition Industries LLC—a Houston-based company specializing in low-carbon methanol and hydrogen solutions—is a joint project with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. Expected to begin operations in 2028, the facility will become the largest single ultra-low carbon methanol plant in the world, producing 350,000 metric tons of green methanol and 1.8 million metric tons of blue methanol each year.

Contract Value and Scope

According to the press release, the licensing contract is valued in the low tens of millions of euros. The company will recognize part of the revenue upfront, with the remaining balance recorded at the Final Investment Decision stage. The entire project, including basic engineering, proprietary equipment supply, commissioning, startup, and operational support, is estimated to be worth €250 million.

Innovative NX AdWinMethanol® Zero Technology

The NX AdWinMethanol® Zero technology, developed by GasConTec—NEXTCHEM’s subsidiary specializing in low-carbon hydrogen and methanol solutions—integrates an advanced Autothermal Reforming (ATR) process, methanol synthesis loop, and cutting-edge CO₂ capture technologies. By converting captured CO₂ and green hydrogen into ultra-low carbon methanol, this technology drastically reduces emissions, bringing them close to zero.

Commitment to Sustainability and Climate Action

Pacifico Mexinol’s groundbreaking approach sets new standards for sustainable methanol production. The facility combines advanced carbon capture and hydrogen integration technologies, showcasing its dedication to addressing climate change and advancing clean energy solutions on a global scale.
