Kemira Expands Strength Chemical Production Capacity in Thailand

Kemira has announced a multi-million Euro investment to expand its production capacity for strength chemical agents at its Wellgrow site in Thailand. The expansion, which includes multiple production lines, will begin in 2026, with the new capacity expected to be operational by August 2026.

Strengthening Market Leadership in Asia-Pacific

As the leading producer and supplier of pulp, paper, and board chemicals in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) market, Kemira is investing to meet the rising demand in Southeast Asia and India. With the pulp and paper industry experiencing rapid growth in the region, this strategic expansion reinforces Kemira’s position as a key supplier.

Advanced Strength Technology for Sustainable Production

Strength agents play a critical role in enhancing the mechanical properties of paper and board products. Kemira’s advanced strength technology offers multiple benefits, including:

  • Lower water usage
  • Improved material efficiency
  • Superior strength and durability

By improving production efficiency and sustainability, this technology helps customers reduce their environmental footprint while replacing older, less efficient methods.

Commitment to Innovation and Growth

Harri Eronen, EVP of Packaging and Hygiene Solutions at Kemira, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation:

“To further strengthen our leading position in APAC, we are expanding our production in Thailand for future growth. The Asian pulp and paper market is among the fastest-growing globally, and this investment enhances our ability to provide cutting-edge, sustainable chemical technology to serve our customers.”

Expanding Production Capacity at Wellgrow Site

Following the expansion, the Wellgrow site will have an annual production capacity of approximately 100,000 tons. Strategically located near Bangkok Airport and the Port of Bangkok, the facility will be supported by Kemira’s global and regional expert teams, leveraging strong research and innovation capabilities to drive sustainable industry growth.
