Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Energy, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, held a working meeting with representatives of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) to discuss major oil and gas projects. Officials from KazMunaiGas and QazaqGaz also participated in the discussions.
The meeting focused on strategic initiatives, including the expansion of the Shymkent Oil Refinery to enhance Kazakhstan’s refining capacity. Other key topics included the Urea project, a major development for the petrochemical sector, and the construction of the second line of the Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent gas pipeline to strengthen the country’s gas transportation network.
Discussions also covered the extension of contracts for MangistauMunaiGas and Urikhtau, along with supply and transportation issues for natural gas.
“These projects are of strategic importance for the development of Kazakhstan’s oil and gas sector. We highly value our cooperation with Chinese partners and are confident that through joint efforts, we will achieve our shared goals,” said Vice Minister Akkenzhenov.
Following the meeting, both sides agreed to continue collaboration, conduct further technical consultations, and coordinate next steps to implement mutually beneficial projects.
CNPC has been active in Kazakhstan since 1997, investing in upstream oil and gas operations, refining, pipeline construction, and petroleum product marketing. The company’s key investment projects include Aktobe, RK, MMG, Kashagan, Northern Buzachi, ADM, and KAM.
Additionally, CNPC is a major partner in the construction and operation of vital pipelines such as the Kazakhstan-China oil and gas pipelines and the southern route of the Kazakhstan-China gas pipeline. The corporation also provides services in geophysical exploration, drilling, well testing, and engineering construction.
