Jordan is in the final stages of signing an agreement with Turkey’s Solvest Company for gold exploration, nearly three years after the two sides inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry announced.
The MoU, signed in June 2022, granted Solvest exploration rights over a 155-square-kilometer area in the Southern Abu Khashiba Valley. This follows an earlier mining agreement in April 2022, when the Turkish firm was awarded a license to explore copper in the same region.
“The negotiations with Solvest have reached their final stage… once the agreement is signed, it will be sent to Parliament and the Cabinet for endorsement,” the ministry stated in remarks published by Alghad newspaper on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, a survey conducted by Solvest in Abu Khashiba Valley has confirmed the presence of at least 60,000 ounces of pure gold, positioning the area as a potential hub for future gold mining operations.
