Irving Oil revealed plans to invest $100 million to upgrade a critical crude oil processing unit at its Saint John refinery in New Brunswick, Canada’s largest refinery with a capacity of 320,000 barrels per day.
The investment will focus on enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the refinery’s fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU)—a vital component responsible for producing refined products such as gasoline and diesel.
Serving markets across Atlantic Canada and the U.S. Northeast, the refinery plays a crucial role in regional fuel supply.
“As we build for the future, we do so with the knowledge of continued growth in demand for traditional energy products,” said Jeff Matthews, CEO of Irving Oil. “This FCCU Revamp Project is an essential investment in energy security for all the regions we serve.”
The project is expected to engage approximately 675 skilled workers, primarily from New Brunswick, contributing to local employment and economic activity.
A company spokesperson has not yet provided details regarding the project’s timeline or its impact on ongoing refinery operations.
