The National Investment Commission (NIC) is finalizing the process for issuing an investment license for Iraq’s inaugural blue ammonia project, following the Oil Ministry’s approval for the necessary gas supply, NIC spokesperson Hanan Jassim informed the Iraqi News Agency.
The NIC, known for streamlining the investment licensing process, is working to facilitate this significant project.
Jassim highlighted that the Arab region is increasingly competitive in the production of low-carbon ammonia, reflecting a global commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Details regarding the project’s cost and construction timeline are still pending.
Earlier this month, NIC Chairman Haidar Makki revealed that Iraq is advancing a blue ammonia project as part of its broader strategy to diversify its economy beyond oil dependency.
This initiative follows similar announcements or ongoing constructions of blue ammonia projects in the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia this year.
