Indonesia will develop multiple oil refineries across its islands, including Kalimantan and Sulawesi, with a total capacity of 1 million barrels per day (bpd), doubling its initial plan for a single 500,000 bpd refinery, Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia announced.
The move aligns with the government’s strategy to accelerate 21 natural resource processing projects worth $40 billion, including coal gasification initiatives, oil storage development, and refining capacity expansion.
Following a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto, Bahlil confirmed the revised refinery capacity, emphasizing that Indonesia currently imports around 1 million bpd of crude oil and fuel to meet domestic demand.
Additionally, Indonesia plans to construct oil storage facilities with a 1-million-barrel capacity to enhance energy security.
