Indonesia And New Zealand Explores Collaborations On Green Hydrogen

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) joined forces with The University of Auckland’s Geothermal Institute for a collaborative seminar themed “Accelerating a Sustainable Energy Transition with The Geothermal Institute, The University of Auckland.”

This seminar, part of an ongoing partnership since 2022, aimed to explore the broader applications of geothermal energy beyond traditional power plants and address the challenges associated with geothermal project development.

Agus Cahyono Adi, Head of the Communications, Public Information Services, and Cooperation Bureau (KLIK) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, highlighted the significance of the seminar in Jakarta. He emphasized its focus on leveraging geothermal energy for various innovative purposes, including direct heat utilization, green hydrogen and ammonia production, mineral extraction, and CO2 sequestration. These diverse applications not only drive business opportunities but also contribute to environmental sustainability, positioning geothermal energy as a pivotal player in Indonesia’s energy transition.

Indonesia boasts immense geothermal potential that surpasses the capacity of conventional power plants. The collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and The University of Auckland’s Geothermal Institute has been instrumental in harnessing this potential. Through joint efforts, a wealth of geothermal expertise has been cultivated, supporting numerous national projects across Indonesia. This longstanding partnership underscores the shared commitment to advancing geothermal energy as a cornerstone of sustainable development in the country.
