Hyundai Heavy Wins LNG Vessel Order from Purus

Purus has placed an order for a 180,000 cbm dual-fuel LNG carrier, scheduled for delivery in Q4 2027. Upon delivery, the vessel is expected to begin a long-term charter with an undisclosed energy company.

Purus stated that the order reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting the clean energy transition through the transportation of cleaner-burning fuels. The vessel will feature advanced dual-fuel propulsion and is designed to utilize natural gas boil-off as fuel. It is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 25% and NOₓ emissions by approximately 85% compared to conventional marine fuels.

Engineered for long-term efficiency, the ship incorporates performance-enhancing features, including a highly optimized twin skeg hull design to improve fuel economy and propulsion efficiency. Additionally, the use of LNG will ensure negligible SOₓ emissions and a significant reduction in particulate matter, supporting cleaner operations in Emission Control Areas (ECAs).

Earlier this year, Purus also announced the start of construction on a medium gas carrier (MGC) designed for ammonia transport.
