GPS Renewables partners with Dubai-based SAF One for projects in India

Dubai-based SAF One announced a partnership with GPS Renewables, India’s leading full-stack technology and engineering company focused on clean fuels, to develop sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) projects in India.

As part of this collaboration, GPS Renewables’ project platform, Arya, will work with SAF One to co-develop a facility capable of producing 20 to 30 million liters (5.3 to 7.9 million gallons) of SAF annually using lignocellulosic waste feedstock.

“With India moving towards mandating a 1% to 5% blended usage of SAF starting in 2027, collaborative efforts are crucial to overcoming the challenges in sustainable aviation fuel production,” said Mainak Chakraborty, CEO and co-founder of GPS Renewables. “At GPS Renewables, we are dedicated to removing these bottlenecks and facilitating India’s transition to clean energy. This partnership with SAF One is a significant step in that direction. We are excited about accelerating SAF production and helping India become a leader in sustainable aviation fuel.”

GPS Renewables has been a pioneer in biofuel technology and project development, including compressed biogas (CBG), renewable natural gas (RNG), second-generation ethanol, and green hydrogen. With a track record of establishing over 100 biogas plants, including Asia’s largest RNG plant based on municipal solid waste (MSW) in Indore, GPS Renewables remains a leader in clean fuel production.

“The Indian aviation sector is poised for significant growth, and SAF One recognizes the critical need for clean-energy solutions,” said Deepak Munganahalli, co-founder and director at SAF One. “We are thrilled to collaborate with GPS Renewables to advance SAF projects in India and accelerate the adoption of clean fuels. This partnership is a cornerstone of SAF One’s strategy to support and transform the aviation sector. Combining GPS’s extensive experience in green-energy projects in India with SAF One’s expertise in sustainable aviation fuels and our principals’ track record in aviation and the circular economy makes for an ideal partnership.”

EY acted as the exclusive M&A investment banker representing GPS Renewables in the transaction.

Headquartered in Bengaluru, GPS Renewables is a full-stack biofuels firm offering technology and project solutions for climate-positive biofuel projects. From its beginnings with captive biogas plants, the company has scaled to establish some of the world’s largest RNG plants. In 2022, GPS Renewables launched Arya, a wholly-owned subsidiary, to commission build-own-operate projects, augmenting its climate-impact ambitions.

SAF One Energy Management Ltd., registered in the Dubai International Financial Centre, is a platform focused on delivering SAF to the global aviation industry. SAF One’s mission is to provide innovative solutions aimed at reducing carbon emissions and supporting the aviation sector’s transition to a more sustainable future.
