The government has allocated 2.8 billion shillings for 11 water projects in Monduli District Council, Arusha Region, for the 2024/2025 financial year. These projects will be implemented across 13 villages, addressing the current water shortage that affects all 62 villages in the region.
To date, 45 villages have been provided with clean and safe water, achieving an average coverage of 69 percent. Monduli District Commissioner Festo Kiswaga announced this on Thursday during the opening of the second general meeting for Community-Based Water Supply Organizations (CBWSOs).
Kiswaga stated that upon completion of the new projects, water service availability in Monduli District is expected to reach 86 percent, resolving the current water challenges faced by residents. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing clean water and urged residents to protect water infrastructure and pay their water bills to ensure continued service.
Neville Msaki, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) Manager for Monduli District, reported that water scheme operations are progressing well. A total of 20 CBWSOs have been registered under the Water Act No. 5 of 2019. Currently, 10 of these organizations are effectively operating in their respective areas: Mtowambu, Lolkisale, Makuyuni, Naitolia, Mswakini Juu, Naiti, Meserani Bwawani, Selela, Mbaashi, and Saruni Oldonyo.
However, six organizations—Monalo, Mfereji, Enguik, Lendikinya, Emairete, and Eluwai—are facing operational challenges due to leadership issues. Additionally, two organizations, Mswakini Chini and Engaruka, have yet to start functioning, while two new organizations, Lepuruko and Nafco, have been established.
