GoVerde Energia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the State of Bahia for the construction of a major industrial park in Candeias, focused on the production of green methanol, ammonia, oxygen, and solar energy. The project, announced on Wednesday, April 23 by the Secretariat of Economic Development (SDE), represents a total planned investment of R$9 billion and is expected to generate 24,000 indirect jobs over its implementation period.
The initiative will be executed in three phases and includes the creation of 50 direct jobs at the main factory and 20 additional jobs at the solar power generation unit in each phase. As part of its social commitment, GoVerde Energia has pledged to prioritize the hiring of local residents from Candeias and to invest in training the regional workforce.
“The decarbonization of supply chains is a growing demand, and Bahia is leading the way under the leadership of Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues in promoting sustainable industrial practices,” said Angelo Almeida, Secretary of Economic Development. “In today’s global context, Bahia is emerging as a key player in the green economy. We continue to attract companies aligned with this mission and our strategic development goals.”
Of the R$9 billion total, R$5.4 billion will be allocated to the construction of the industrial park in Candeias, while R$3.6 billion will fund the development of solar power plants in Juazeiro, Bom Jesus da Lapa, Pindaí, Brumado, and Irecê. These solar installations will have a combined capacity of up to 1.5 GW annually, significantly contributing to the region’s clean energy supply.
The factory, which will incorporate advanced German technology, is primarily geared toward exports. In its initial phase, it will be capable of producing 300,000 tons of green methanol and ammonia per day, as well as 155,000 tons of oxygen, with each successive phase increasing production by 200 tons per day.
“Green methanol is set to decarbonize entire chains in the maritime and aviation sectors,” said Ricardo Junqueira, CEO of GoVerde Energia. “Bahia has been a pioneer in the green fuels sector and currently stands as one of the most favorable states in Brazil for launching a project of this scale and export potential.”
