Golar LNG is considering placing additional orders for floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessels this year, driven by favorable market dynamics and increasing demand for flexible, fast-track LNG export solutions.
The New York-listed company currently operates two FLNG units: Gimi, deployed at BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project located offshore Senegal and Mauritania, and Hilli, which is in service for Perenco offshore Cameroon. Both units underscore Golar’s proven track record in deploying FLNG technology to monetize stranded gas reserves and support emerging LNG export markets.
Looking ahead, Golar is preparing for the next chapter in Hilli’s operational journey. In 2026, the vessel will depart West Africa and, following necessary modifications and re-certification, will be redeployed to Argentina. There, Hilli will support a new export initiative led by Southern Energy, a consortium comprising Pan American Energy, YPF, Pampa Energía, Harbour Energy, and Golar LNG. The project aims to unlock Argentina’s prolific Vaca Muerta shale gas reserves and transform the country into a regional LNG export hub.
As global LNG demand continues to rise and more countries seek energy security and transition fuels, Golar’s strategic FLNG investments are well-positioned to play a central role in meeting near-to-mid-term supply needs.
