A consortium of Gensol Engineering and Matrix Gas & Renewables has been awarded a Rs. 1.64 billion (~$19.53 million) engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to develop India’s first bio-hydrogen project. The facility will convert 25 tons of bio-waste into one ton of green hydrogen daily, with completion expected within 18 months, according to a Gensol filing.
The project will utilize advanced Pre-Gasification Plasma-Induced Radiant Energy-Based Gasification System technology developed by U.S.-based Westinghouse, with which Gensol has a strategic partnership. Westinghouse has successfully executed similar projects worldwide.
In a separate announcement, Gensol Engineering revealed the acquisition of a 99.99% equity stake in Gridstor Energy for Rs. 99,990 (~$1,191). This acquisition will enable Gensol to focus on renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and battery storage systems through Gridstor.
Gensol has also entered the U.S. market with the launch of its Delaware-based subsidiary, Scorpius Trackers, targeting the expanding solar tracker market. The company aims to supply over 2,000 MW of solar trackers annually by 2028, with its first U.S. office situated in California.
Additionally, Gensol won a bid in SECI’s auction for a 237 MW hydrogen electrolyzer manufacturing capacity, further strengthening its renewable energy portfolio in partnership with Matrix Gas & Renewables.
