GAIL gas pipeline expansion is gaining momentum as the state-owned utility invests ₹844 crore to boost the capacity of its Dahej-Uran-Dabhol-Panvel (DUPL-DPPL) pipeline. The upgrade will raise throughput from 19.9 to 22.5 mmscmd over the next three years, reinforcing India’s growing gas infrastructure.
Mumbai-Nagpur-Jharsuguda Pipeline Faces Delay and Cost Hike
GAIL’s 1,702-km Mumbai-Nagpur-Jharsuguda Pipeline (MNJPL) has hit a delay. Originally slated for completion by June 30, 2025, the project is now expected to wrap up by September 30, 2025. The revised project cost has risen to ₹8,255.37 crore from the initially sanctioned ₹7,844.25 crore — an increase of ₹411.12 crore.
The delay stems from pending forest, highway, and National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) clearances. However, progress remains strong, with 98% of the Nagpur-Jharsuguda section and 97% of the Nagpur-Jabalpur section already completed. Land acquisition remains a key hurdle.
Srikakulam-Angul Pipeline Sees Timeline Extension
GAIL has also pushed back the completion deadline for its 744-km Srikakulam-Angul pipeline from June 2025 to December 2025. Of the planned 322 km of spur lines, 252 km have already been laid, marking steady progress despite the revised schedule.
GAIL’s Push for Stronger Gas Infrastructure
These initiatives highlight GAIL’s commitment to expanding India’s natural gas network amid rising energy demand and the country’s transition to cleaner fuels. While facing some delays, GAIL continues to prioritize infrastructure growth and regional energy reliability.
