A French consortium consisting of Meridiam and Suez has been selected as the preferred bidder for Jordan’s National Water Carrier project, also known as the Aqaba-Amman Desalination and Water Conveyance Project, according to a report from The Jordan Times on Tuesday, citing Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh.
The report, based on information from the state-owned Jordan News Agency Petra, stated that a Special Procurement Committee will now enter direct negotiations with the consortium for the multi-billion-dollar initiative. The project aims to supply 300 million cubic meters of desalinated water annually from the Red Sea via a pipeline.
Jordan has secured financial commitments and agreements totaling up to $2.2 billion in grants and concessional loans for the project, which is estimated to cost around 3 billion Jordanian dinars ($4.2 billion), according to previous media reports and official statements.
