Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) has announced a new contract with RoPower Nuclear to conduct Phase 2 front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for its small modular reactor (SMR) facility in Doicesti, Romania. The contract, expected to be recognized as a new award in Fluor’s third-quarter 2024 financials, follows Fluor’s completion of Phase 1 FEED work in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The project will leverage NuScale Power’s SMR technology to produce carbon-free energy, marking a significant step forward in Romania’s clean energy efforts.
The contract signing took place during the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation summit in Bucharest, Romania, on July 24. The event was attended by representatives from Fluor and NuScale, Romanian Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja, and U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, highlighting the importance of SMR technology in meeting carbon-free power needs and bolstering energy security. The project has garnered strong support from both the Romanian and U.S. governments.
