Equinor Awards Contract to Aker for Troll Phase 3 Project Offshore Norway

Aker Solutions has been awarded a contract by Equinor for topside modifications on the Troll A platform, part of the Troll Phase 3 project offshore Norway. This contract, valued between NOK 500 million ($47.53 million) and NOK 1.5 billion, encompasses engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) work focused on enhancing gas production from the Troll West gas reservoir.

Located in the North Sea, approximately 80 kilometers northwest of Bergen, the Troll field is Norway’s largest gas producer, contributing about 10% of Europe’s gas supply. The Troll Phase 3 project aims to extract gas from the gas cap above the Troll West oil column while maintaining oil production. The processed gas will be routed to the Troll A platform and integrated into the existing infrastructure network.

Under this contract, Aker Solutions will prepare the Troll A platform to process gas from eight new wells at Troll West. This follows the completion of the first stage in 2021, during which Aker Solutions delivered a new module for the platform and subsea systems for Stage I of the field development.

Paal Eikeseth, Executive Vice President of Aker Solutions’ Life Cycle segment, expressed enthusiasm about continuing the significant development of the Troll field, stating, “We are excited to move forward with the next step of Troll Phase 3. Our in-depth knowledge of Troll A, the equipment on the asset, and the modifications made in the first phase provide a strong foundation for executing this new scope.”

Additionally, Aker Solutions will install and prepare the necessary equipment for cleaning up initial well fluids during the start-up phase of the wells. The contract work will be distributed across several Aker Solutions offices, with project management, detailed engineering, procurement, and shop engineering conducted from the Stavanger office in Norway, supported by teams in Bergen and Mumbai.

Construction and prefabrication will take place at the company’s yard in Egersund. OneSubsea, which is 20% owned by Aker Solutions, has previously been contracted to provide the subsea production system for the project.

The contract commences immediately and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Earlier this month, Equinor announced the partial electrification of the Troll B and C platforms in the North Sea from the shore.
