EnviTec Biogas, in partnership with Dutch energy provider Byont, has signed its first contract for the construction of a biogas upgrading plant with integrated carbon dioxide liquefaction in Belgium.
According to Maurice Markerink, Managing Director of EnviTec Plant Construction, the new facility will be connected to an existing biogas plant and is scheduled to begin operations in July 2026. Once operational, it will inject 735 normal cubic metres per hour of biomethane into the Belgian gas grid.
In addition, the plant will produce 24 tonnes of biogenic liquid CO₂ per day.
“This enables us to actively contribute to promoting the supply of green energy and the circular economy of CO₂,” said Roel Slotman, CEO of Byont.
The Lower Saxony-based manufacturer will also modernize the existing biogas facility to ensure full compliance with the latest standards, Markerink added.
Byont, which develops, operates, and invests in biogas projects across the Benelux region and Germany, has two additional biogas plants in the planning and approval phase. “We also intend to convert these two Dutch plants to biomethane production combined with CO₂ liquefaction technology,” Slotman noted.
