ENGIE to Invest in Puebla’s Natural Gas Infrastructure Expansion

The government of Puebla, under the leadership of Sergio Salomón Céspedes, and ENGIE Mexico have unveiled a substantial investment of MX$1.195 billion (US$69.31 million) for expanding natural gas infrastructure in the region.

The initial phase of this project involves a MX$159 million investment by the end of 2024, focusing on enhancing natural gas infrastructure across Puebla’s industrial parks in San Martin and Huejotzingo. This upgrade aims to create a more attractive environment for businesses.

Ana Laura Ludlow, Vice President of Governmental Affairs and Sustainability at ENGIE Mexico, emphasized that the development of 490 kilometers of natural gas infrastructure from 2024 to 2030 is designed to foster sustainable economic growth in Puebla. The project will benefit industrial, commercial, and residential sectors, promoting balanced and sustainable development.

Puebla’s Minister of Economy, Ermilo Barrera, praised Sergio Salomón’s leadership, noting that Puebla has become a national leader in energy matters. The state currently leads several energy transition indicators, accounting for over 10% of the country’s distributed clean generation capacity.

Barrera Novelo highlighted Puebla’s excellence in human talent, being the second state to certify its workforce in the installation and supervision of distributed clean energy generation. He also noted Puebla’s pioneering efforts in involving women in the energy sector. The state is committed to diversifying its energy matrix, integrating both clean energy sources and industrial inputs like natural gas to enhance development, competitiveness, and sustainability
