Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja announced plans to launch a call for hydrogen production projects within the next two weeks during the Regional Energy Forum (FOREN 2024). Highlighting recent achievements, Burduja emphasized the success of Investment 1 under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), which exceeded expectations by contracting approximately 2,000 MW with an allocated budget originally set for 950 MW.
“The private market has shown a strong appetite for green energy projects, bolstered by minimal governmental and EU support,” Burduja stated. “We are set to allocate 100 million euros for hydrogen production in Romania through this upcoming call.”
He also outlined progress made through the Modernization Fund, including the initiation of calls for heating network projects and contract signings with several cities. Looking ahead, Burduja highlighted plans to establish an energy storage support scheme as a top priority, aiming to allocate at least 150 million euros by year-end.
“As a short-term priority, we are focused on developing a national energy strategy and updating the Integrated National Plan for Energy and Climate Change (PNIESC). These strategic documents are crucial for streamlining operations and accelerating investments in the energy sector,” Burduja added.
The 17th edition of FOREN 2024, organized by the Romanian National Committee of the World Energy Council (CNR-CME), convenes from June 16-18. This biennial forum addresses critical energy sector analyses, discussions, and cooperation strategies across Central and Southeast Europe.
