Eneos Secures Offshore Drilling Contract in Vietnam with HAKURYU-14 Jack-Up Rig

Japan’s Eneos Drilling, a subsidiary of Eneos Xplora, has signed a new offshore drilling contract with the Japan Vietnam Petroleum Company (JVPC), marking another strategic move in Southeast Asia’s energy sector. Under the agreement, Eneos will deploy its high-specification jack-up rig, HAKURYU-14, to carry out drilling operations off the coast of Vietnam.

The project is scheduled to take place in Block 15-2, located offshore from Vung Tau, and will involve the drilling of two wells. The drilling campaign is expected to span approximately 110 days, with operations projected to commence between late May and mid-June 2025, depending on final logistical and operational preparations.

HAKURYU-14 is a state-of-the-art cantilever jack-up rig, capable of operating in water depths up to 400 feet. Built by PPL Shipyard and delivered in January 2018, the rig is based on the proven Baker Marine Design. It boasts a robust Variable Deck Load (VDL), spacious deck area, accommodation for up to 150 personnel, and full preload jacking capability, enabling it to handle complex offshore operations with high efficiency.

Engineered for demanding environments, HAKURYU-14 is designed for deepwater and deep drilling applications, supporting drilling depths of up to 35,000 feet. It is fully equipped for High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) operations and complies with zero-discharge environmental standards, reinforcing Eneos’ commitment to sustainable drilling practices.

One of the rig’s key technical advantages is its advanced cantilever system, which allows the rotary table to extend up to 70 feet from the transom and 15 feet from the centerline, enhancing its reach and flexibility during drilling operations.

This contract marks a significant milestone for Eneos Drilling as it continues to strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia’s oil and gas sector, contributing to energy security and regional development.
