The Egyptian Cabinet has approved several major solar energy projects, marking a significant advance in the country’s renewable energy capacity.
The Cabinet has given the go-ahead to a proposal from Emirati company Masdar to study a solar energy station project with a potential capacity of up to 4 gigawatts. This project aims to greatly increase Egypt’s renewable energy output and help meet the country’s growing electricity needs.
Additionally, the Cabinet has endorsed another Masdar initiative to develop a 1,200-megawatt solar energy project, which will include storage batteries with a combined capacity of 240 megawatt-hours. These batteries will enhance grid reliability and stabilize the energy supply.
The Cabinet has also approved several protocols for renewable energy projects proposed by Empower, a subsidiary of the Emirati Al Nowais Investment Group. These projects will integrate storage batteries, either as part of solar systems or as standalone units, further improving Egypt’s ability to manage and store renewable energy.
These initiatives are expected to address the rising electricity demand and support the integration of additional energy capacities in time for the upcoming summer, highlighting Egypt’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy infrastructure.
