Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with senior officials from AngloGold Ashanti to discuss the company’s current operations, future expansion plans, and potential avenues for strengthening cooperation in Egypt’s mining sector, according to an official statement.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) Yasser Ramadan, and AngloGold Ashanti CEO Alberto Calderon.
During a visit to the Sukari gold mine in Marsa Alam, Prime Minister Madbouly reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting AngloGold Ashanti’s investments in Egypt. He highlighted the country’s significant untapped mineral potential, suggesting that Egypt may host additional gold reserves comparable to those of Sukari.
Madbouly also emphasized the government’s readiness to remove any obstacles hindering the company’s operations, paving the way for increased investment and expanded production at the Sukari site in the coming period.
AngloGold Ashanti CEO Alberto Calderon confirmed the company’s intention to boost its investments in Egypt. He expressed confidence that Egypt holds promising exploration prospects similar to Sukari, reinforcing the company’s long-term interest in the country’s mining sector.
