Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has signed a strategic agreement with the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) to explore new bauxite development opportunities in Ghana. This partnership aims to unlock the country’s vast bauxite potential through long-term offtake agreements and joint efforts on rail and port infrastructure projects.
Ghana is home to over 900 million tonnes of bauxite reserves, yet currently produces just 1.5 million tonnes annually. The collaboration could significantly increase output, helping Ghana capitalize on its mineral wealth while supporting EGA’s global supply chain.
This move comes amid regulatory uncertainty in Guinea, where EGA operates one of the region’s largest bauxite mines through its Guinea Alumina Corporation. Guinea recently began a process to revoke EGA’s mining license there, prompting the company to diversify its sourcing strategy across West Africa.
