EFG to Make Major Investment in Biomethane Facilities in the Czech Republic”

The Czech company Energy Financial Group (EFG) is significantly advancing its biomethane production capabilities. EFG plans to ramp up its biomethane production to 100 GWh per year starting next year, with an investment of hundreds of millions of crowns, according to the Czech News Agency.

By 2030, EFG aims to produce up to 500 GWh of biomethane annually from processing 380,000 tonnes of waste. This output would represent nearly 10% of the national biomethane production target.

Currently, EFG’s biomethane production capacity is around 16 GWh, a figure that has already seen substantial growth this year. The company is set to continue this expansion, with a goal of reaching 100 GWh per year. EFG’s facilities will be capable of processing up to 100,000 tonnes of otherwise unusable bio-waste annually.

In June, EFG launched its newest biomethane production plant in Vyškov, Southern Moravia, investing over Kc250 million to upgrade it into one of the most advanced biomethane stations in the Czech Republic. Additional investments of approximately Kc130 million are being directed towards the renovation of the biogas plant in Vysoké Mýto, Eastern Bohemia, and significantly increasing production capacity at Rapotín, Northern Moravia. Rapotín’s plant is notable for being the first biogas facility in the Czech Republic to supply renewable gas to the national grid.

EFG also plans to invest over Kc300 million in power balancing services (PBS) to stabilize the power transmission system. The company has initiated three PBS projects with a total capacity of 28 MW, including one at the Rapotín station, where the cogeneration unit will integrate with biomethane production.

Founded in Prague in 2007, EFG Group has been developing and managing renewable energy projects through its subsidiaries.
