Dutch firm to set up blast furnace at IISCO steel plant

The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has awarded the blast furnace (BF) package to a consortium led by Danieli Corus, marking a major milestone in SAIL’s ongoing capacity expansion program. The contract was finalized last week, with a targeted completion timeline of 41 months.

The new blast furnace will have an impressive production capacity of 4.3 million tonnes of hot metal per year, making it the central component of SAIL’s broader 4.08 million-tonne expansion initiative. Once completed, this furnace will significantly enhance SAIL’s output capabilities, operational efficiency, and ability to meet growing domestic and international steel demand.

This development underscores SAIL’s commitment to modernizing its facilities with advanced, globally proven technologies, while strengthening India’s steel manufacturing ecosystem in line with national growth objectives.
