Doosan Enerbility, a leading South Korean engineering and construction firm, has announced the signing of a major contract with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for the development of the PP12 Combined Cycle Power Plant. The agreement, valued at approximately $610.7 million, marks a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing international expansion.
The PP12 power plant will be constructed about 150 kilometers northwest of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Once completed, the plant will have a generation capacity of 1,800 megawatts (MW), playing a crucial role in supporting Saudi Arabia’s ambitious energy goals. As part of its Vision 2030 strategy, the Kingdom is working to increase its power generation capacity by 6 gigawatts (GW) annually over the next five years, aiming to diversify its economy and lessen its reliance on oil by investing in key infrastructure and energy initiatives.
Doosan Enerbility will execute the project in partnership with SEPCO3, forming a strong consortium that leverages both companies’ expertise in large-scale power plant construction. Under this agreement, Doosan will handle the design, supply of essential equipment, and full commissioning of the facility, showcasing its capability in delivering complex energy projects.
A standout feature of the PP12 plant is its advanced gas combined cycle technology, which uses both gas and steam turbines to produce electricity more efficiently than conventional methods. This approach not only optimizes energy output but also meets the growing power needs of the region in a more sustainable way.
The PP12 project reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to modernizing its energy sector while promoting cleaner and more efficient power generation solutions.
