Doosan Enerbility, South Korea, has announced the signing of a contract for the construction of the Rumah 1 and Al-Nairyah 1 gas-fired combined cycle power plants in Saudi Arabia.
The total contract value exceeds USD 1.54 billion.
The agreement was signed with a consortium comprising ACWA Power, Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), the project’s developer.
Doosan Enerbility aims to complete the project by 2028 using the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model, in collaboration with SEPCO-3, a specialist in power plant construction. The partnership will oversee all project phases, from design and equipment supply to installation and trial operations.
The Rumah 1 and Nairyah 1 projects, tendered by the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) through an international bidding process, involve constructing two 1,800MW gas-fired combined cycle power plants. Rumah 1 will be located 80 km northeast of Riyadh, while Nairyah 1 will be situated 470 km northeast of the capital. The electricity generated will be sold to SPPC under a 25-year power purchase agreement, supporting Saudi Arabia’s energy transition and increasing grid reliability.
