Delta Energia has announced a contract with Portugal’s Galp to supply natural gas to its William Arjona thermoelectric plant in Campo Grande (MS). The 18-month agreement covers the delivery of 1.1 million cubic meters of gas, which will be transported via the Mato Grosso do Sul State Gas Company (MSGÁS) network.
This contract is designed to support the operational activities of the William Arjona plant, which has a capacity of 190 megawatts (MW) and was acquired by Delta in 2019. The plant resumed operations in 2021 amidst a nationwide water crisis.
The agreement also opens up the possibility for Delta to supply gas to consumers in the free gas market, including sectors such as steel, cellulose, petrochemicals, and hydrocarbons.
Alessandro di Domenico, President of Delta Geração, commented, “This contract not only secures fuel for our thermoelectric plant but also enables us to cater to various industries operating in the free gas market. We are equipped to handle diverse demands in the electricity sector, from small to large-scale industries, and offer flexible energy export solutions.”
Delta Energia highlighted that this contract aligns with new regulatory frameworks aimed at increasing flexibility and competitiveness in the energy sector.
