At a media briefing in Abuja, Mr. Oluwasegun Alabi, Managing Director and CEO of Davidorlah Farms, emphasized the transformative potential of agriculture in Nigeria’s economic future. He noted the country’s strong global position in pineapple production and highlighted the untapped value in agricultural waste-to-energy solutions.
“Ogun State was selected for its abundant agricultural raw materials, ideal for biofuel production,” Alabi said. “This investment not only diversifies Nigeria’s economy beyond oil but promotes sustainability in line with global climate goals.”
Beyond the refinery, Davidorlah Farms is advancing initiatives to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector, including:
-
Agricultural training centres in all 36 states and the FCT
-
On-site hostels to support and empower over 200 young workers on its farm
Alabi stressed agriculture’s critical role in economic resilience:
“Agriculture contributes about 24% to GDP and employs over 36% of our workforce. By reducing reliance on oil and increasing agricultural exports, we can boost food security, stabilize the naira, and safeguard our economy against global volatility.”
The biofuel project underscores Davidorlah Farms’ commitment to climate action, economic diversification, and value-added production.
“Our export-focused pineapple model aims to reverse Nigeria’s trade deficit by earning foreign exchange through globally competitive production,” Alabi added.
As the world shifts away from fossil fuels, Davidorlah Farms is leading the charge toward a greener, more resilient Nigerian economy.
