Brazil’s Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) has announced plans to build a new cement plant in Itaperuçu, near Curitiba, the capital of Paraná state.
CSN, which began producing cement in 2009, expanded its operations in 2015 with the opening of its Arcos cement plant in Minas Gerais. This facility increased the company’s installed capacity to 4.3 million tons annually. By utilizing blast furnace slag from its steel production processes and clinker produced at the Arcos plant, CSN has become one of the most competitive cement producers in Brazil. Today, CSN ranks as the second-largest cement producer in the country, with a total capacity of 16.3 million tons per annum (Mta). Construction on the new Itaperuçu plant is set to begin in 2025, with completion expected by 2027.
