COSCO Shipping Orders Advanced Semi-Submersible Vessel from Leading Chinese Shipyards

In a strategic move to strengthen its fleet, COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers has confirmed an order for a state-of-the-art semi-submersible vessel from top Chinese shipyards. This next-generation vessel will be constructed through a collaboration with the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) and Guangzhou Shipbuilding International, two of China’s most prominent players in the maritime industry.

The new vessel will boast a 70,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) capacity and will be equipped with DP2 dynamic positioning technology, ensuring superior stability and maneuverability in offshore operations. This cutting-edge vessel is designed to support a wide range of heavy-lift and transport operations, including the movement of large and complex cargo across international waters.

Scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2027, the vessel is set to enhance COSCO’s ability to meet the growing demand for specialized heavy-lift transportation, a sector in which the company continues to make significant investments. With the latest advancements in technology and design, this vessel will play a key role in enabling COSCO to maintain its competitive edge in the global shipping industry.
