Construction on new unit of Zhangzhou nuclear power plant underway in Fujian

Construction of the second phase of the Zhangzhou nuclear power plant officially got underway on February 22, marked by workers pouring concrete at the site of the plant’s No. 3 unit. The second phase consists of the construction of the No. 3 and No. 4 units, with work on the latter scheduled to commence in the second half of this year.

With a total investment of about $40 billion, the two units are projected to be fully completed and made operational in 2028 and 2029, respectively. The Zhangzhou nuclear power project is designed to comprise six nuclear power units, each with a power-generating capacity of 1 million-kilowatts. The total capacity will reach about 7.2 million kW, generating more than 58 billion kWh annually after being put into operation.
