A new hospital planned for Chippewa Falls is moving forward after receiving approval from the city’s planning commission.
Aspirus Health confirmed that the commission granted a conditional use permit for the facility’s construction following a public hearing on Monday.
The Wausau-based health system had announced its plans in November to build a hospital that will feature an emergency room, inpatient beds, and basic lab services. This new facility aims to address the healthcare gap left when Hospital Sisters Health System unexpectedly closed its hospitals in Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire, along with a regional network of clinics, in the spring.
Aspirus is currently finalizing a purchase agreement for the land and plans to seek approval from the Chippewa Falls City Council for a developer agreement in the coming weeks. The new hospital could be operational within 18 months of the city’s approval.
