Chinese Company Signs $3.3 Billion Agreement with Nigerian Partner for Brass Industrial Park and Methanol Complex Project

The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) has signed a pivotal agreement with Brass Fertilizer and Petrochemical Company Ltd. (BFPCL) for the Brass Industrial Park and Methanol Complex project, with an expected investment of around $3.3 billion into the Nigerian economy.

The Minister of Petroleum Resources announced the deal on X, highlighting its alignment with President Tinubu’s agenda to foster industrial growth and enhance energy security in Nigeria. The agreement was finalized during the ongoing Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in China.

The Minister noted, “During the Presidential State Visit and FOCAC, I witnessed the signing of critical agreements for the Brass Industrial Park, Gas Gathering Pipelines & Associated Facilities, and the Methanol Complex Project between BFPCL and CRBC. This partnership will inject approximately $3.3 billion into our economy, boosting growth and innovation in Nigeria’s energy sector, as outlined in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”

  • The Brass Oil and Gas City project aims to establish Nigeria as a leading hub for downstream oil and gas manufacturing in Africa. Located on Brass Island in Bayelsa State, it is set to become one of the world’s largest centers for petrochemical, fertilizer, refinery, and hydrocarbon processing.
  • The development will contribute to creating a world-class, export-oriented oil and gas processing city in Nigeria, with $3.5 billion already committed to related projects.
  • BFPCL, a joint venture involving DSV Engineering Limited (DSV), the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and the Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB), will sponsor and operate the Brass Methanol Project.
  • The project, situated on Brass Island, includes a gas supply network, a natural gas processing plant, a methanol production facility, product export terminals, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Both the Gas Processing Plant and the Methanol Plant will be located on a 667.5-hectare site at the eastern end of Brass Island, near the St. Nicholas River and adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean.
