China Energy International Group, along with its subsidiary China Energy Engineering Corporation, has been awarded the contract for the expansion of the Ghazlan Power Plant in Saudi Arabia. The prestigious project has been granted by the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), reflecting the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its energy infrastructure.
Strategically located along the Arabian Gulf Coast, approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Ras Tanura and 80 kilometers north of Dammam, the Ghazlan Power Plant plays a critical role in meeting the electricity needs of the Eastern Province. The new expansion project will significantly enhance the plant’s capacity, adding approximately 1,600 megawatts (MW) under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract.
This development marks another major milestone in SEC’s broader initiative to boost power generation across the country. Just recently, SEC awarded a similar expansion project for the PP12 Power Plant to a consortium made up of SEPCO 3 and Doosan Enerbility, reinforcing its strategy of partnering with global leaders in energy development.
The Ghazlan expansion project underscores China Energy’s growing presence in the Middle East and its dedication to delivering large-scale, high-efficiency power solutions tailored to the region’s rising energy demands.
