Crescent Midstream, supported by private equity firm The Carlyle Group, plans to develop an integrated carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project to manage carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from Entergy’s 994-megawatt Lake Charles Power Station in Westlake, Louisiana.
The project, currently in the permitting phase, is scheduled for completion by 2028, with construction expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026. Once operational, the facility will capture and transport 3 million metric tons of CO2 annually, using Honeywell’s capture technology. Crescent is undertaking this $1 billion venture in partnership with Samsung Engineering & Construction (E&A).
When completed, the project will be among the largest CCS initiatives in the U.S., reducing CO2 emissions equivalent to those produced by 600,000 motor vehicles annually.
Louisiana, the second-largest CO2-emitting state in the U.S., generates most of its emissions from the lower Mississippi River Industrial Corridor. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the corridor produces over 72 million tons of CO2 per year, with 66% of the state’s emissions coming from industrial sources and 13% from electric power generation.
