BP Joins Emirati-Egyptian Alliance to Develop Green Hydrogen Projects in Egypt

BP has entered into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to become part of an existing consortium, which includes the UAE’s Masdar, Egypt’s Hassan Allam Utilities, and Infinity Power, for the development of a multi-phase green hydrogen project in Egypt.

Under this agreement, BP will serve as the primary developer and operator of the project on behalf of the consortium, according to a statement from the oil and gas giant.

The partners will combine their respective green hydrogen initiatives in Egypt and explore the potential for a large-scale, multi-phase project focused on the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives, primarily aimed at export.

The newly formed consortium recently signed a Framework Agreement (FWA) with the Egyptian government during the Egypt-EU Investment Conference. This agreement sets the stage for conducting studies and activities to assess the technical and commercial feasibility of the project.

Currently, BP is responsible for producing around 70 percent of Egypt’s gas.
