Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been awarded a significant contract to establish a 2×800 MW supercritical thermal power project for Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). This prestigious order, secured through International Competitive Bidding (ICB), involves setting up a coal-based power plant in Koderma district, Jharkhand.
This project marks DVC’s first venture into 800 MW units and will be located next to the existing 2×500 MW units previously installed by BHEL. The new project continues BHEL’s strong partnership with DVC, which includes the installation of over 80% of DVC’s coal-based power stations in Jharkhand and West Bengal.
BHEL’s responsibilities for this project encompass the supply, erection, and commissioning of the power plant, along with civil works. Key components will be produced at BHEL’s manufacturing facilities in Haridwar, Trichy, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhopal, and Ranipet. The on-site execution will be managed by BHEL’s Power Sector – Eastern Region. The project will also feature advanced, efficient equipment designed for superior emission control.
As India’s leading power equipment manufacturer, BHEL has a robust track record with an installed base of over 168,000 MW of thermal power plants across the country. The company continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing the nation’s energy security and supports the country’s goals for self-reliance in the power sector. BHEL is well-prepared to address the growing demand for power equipment and maintain its commitment to powering India’s future.
