Anaergia has signed a contract with Capwatt Biomethane Unipessoal to design and build an advanced biomethane plant named Metanext in central Italy.
Valued at approximately C$7.3 million (around €4.9 million), the Metanext project is scheduled to be operational by June 2026. It is the first of nine biomethane facilities planned under a broader agreement between the two companies.
The contract follows a binding letter of intent signed on April 21, 2025, outlining the development of nine biomethane plants across Italy over a 30-month period. Collectively, the projects are expected to generate over C$60 million (€40.3 million) in revenue for Anaergia.
Anaergia will be responsible for the design and construction of each facility, deploying advanced technologies, including its proprietary anaerobic digesters. The initiative aims to enhance Europe’s renewable energy infrastructure and accelerate the production of sustainable biomethane.
Sérgio Rocha, CEO of Capwatt, commented:
“The Metanext facility will have the capacity to produce 7.6 million cubic metres of high-quality biomethane annually. This marks a significant step in fulfilling Capwatt’s commitment to sustainable energy and supporting Europe’s transition to a greener future.”
Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia, added:
“This contract marks a major milestone in our partnership with Capwatt, transitioning from intent to implementation. With Anaergia’s proven technology and expertise, we are well equipped to execute multiple projects in parallel and deliver on Capwatt’s vision, as demonstrated in past collaborations.”
