Adani Group’s Ambuja Cements to Invest ₹1,600 Crore in New Bihar Grinding Unit

Adani Group-owned Ambuja Cement Ltd (ACL) has announced a substantial investment of approximately ₹1,600 crore to establish a new cement grinding unit at Warisaliganj in Nawada district, Bihar. This marks ACL’s first venture in the state as part of its aggressive expansion strategy.

The new facility will have a capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and is set to become the largest cement industry investment in Bihar to date. The project aims to address the growing infrastructure needs in the state, aligning with priorities outlined in the recent Union Budget.

In the Union Budget 2024-25, the Narendra Modi-led government proposed major projects for Bihar, including investments in expressways, a power plant, heritage corridors, airports, and sports infrastructure, with a total outlay exceeding ₹60,000 crore. Notably, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced support for the development of three expressways and an additional two-lane bridge over the Ganga at Buxar, with these projects costing ₹26,000 crore.

ACL’s cement grinding unit will be executed in three phases. The first phase, involving a capacity of 2.4 MTPA and an investment of ₹1,100 crore, is expected to be commissioned by December 2025. The site, located in Mosama village, Tehsil Warisaliganj, Nawada, Bihar, is well-connected by road and rail. The project will contribute approximately ₹250 crore annually to the state’s fiscal revenue and create 250 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs.

Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) has allocated 67.90 acres of land for the project, and environmental clearance has been secured.

Pranav Adani, Managing Director (Agro, Oil & Gas) and Director at Adani Enterprises Limited, expressed enthusiasm about the investment, highlighting the support from the state government and local communities.

Adani Group, the second-largest cement producer in India, recently acquired Hyderabad-based Penna Cement for ₹10,422 crore, adding 14 MTPA to its capacity and bringing its total to 93 MTPA. The group aims to reach a 140 MTPA capacity by FY28, expanding both organically and through acquisitions. Through Ambuja, Adani also controls ACC Ltd and has recently acquired MyHome Industries and Sanghi Industries.
