“Abu Dhabi Sustainable Water Solutions Consortium to Develop $1 Billion Wastewater Treatment Plant in Uzbekistan”

A strategic consortium led by Abu Dhabi Sustainable Water Solutions Company (SWS), Marubeni Corporation, and Suez has formalized a joint development agreement with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade and Uzsuvtaminot JSC for the creation of a major wastewater treatment plant in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Valued at over $1 billion, this project is set to become the largest wastewater treatment facility in Uzbekistan and the wider Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The plant will have the capacity to treat 1.5 million cubic meters of water per day.

The agreement, signed in Tashkent, highlights the strong bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Uzbekistan, aiming to boost economic development in Tashkent and its surrounding areas.

Signatories included Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan; Ahmed Al Shamsi, Managing Director and CEO of SWS Holding; Akhmad Suvankulov, Chairman of Uzsuvtaminot; Kazuaki Shibuya, General Manager of Marubeni’s Environmental Infrastructure Department; and Silvere Delaunay, CEO of Suez for the CIS region.

Construction is anticipated to commence in 2026, with the plant expected to be fully operational by 2030. Once completed, the facility will serve around three million residents in Tashkent and nearby cities, replacing the existing wastewater treatment plants in Salar and Bektimir.

The consortium will oversee the development, financing, engineering, procurement, and construction of the facility and its sewer trunk lines. They will also manage the operation and maintenance of the plant for 25 years. Uzsuvtaminot JSC will manage the new trunk sewer lines once they are commissioned.
